For the second time in a row, the WERNER CHRIST owned tannery in Uruguay receives the ECO2L (energy controlled leather) label as the first and only sheepskin tannery in the world. The ECO2L label was developed as an active contribution to climate protection and contains the world’s first calculation model to determine the energy efficiency and CO2 emissions of a tannery. The ECO2L certificate is issued by the independent research institute for leather and plastic sheeting (FILK). The auditing is done on behalf of FILK through independent and officially designated auditors.
The WERNER CHRIST owned tannery has achieved it’s goal of a CO2-neutral tanning process by using a woodchip furnace, reforesting of trees and the use of solar energy.
Awareness for sustainability is an integral part of WERNER CHRIST’s philosophy.
